No, you don't only drink water.

Starting (or finding) a skincare routine is a really difficult thing to do. Doesn't matter if you want to do it to feel like you have your sh*t together, or because you want to take care of the largest organ of your body (even though, you should be taking care of the other organs too, before they get jealous).

I will share with you, my skincare tips, products that have helped me and things I've learnt along the way to take care of my skin.

We all have different types of skin, so even though I'd like to personally help all the types of skin, I believe people with prone combination will benefit the most from this post.

Before starting a list of my morning and 3 different night routines products, I'd like to start by explaining some of the reasons of a break out. Not everybody has the same problems, so try to know your body and understand what is causing you to break out.

  1. Hormones- PCOS, hormonal imbalances, etc. Hormonal acne might be a little difficult to spot, it usually comes with excessive hair growth. Some people don't get this hair growth, so try and go to the gynecologist/ urologist at least once a year and make sure everything is ok with your hormones and body.

  2. What you eat- Try to eat as healthy as you can, eat fruit ,nuts and vegetables, these kind foods will nurture you with vitamins and help your skin to look pretty. Try and see which foods causes you to break out, it may be dairy, meat, or bread. When you identify which one it is, try to cut it out of your life as much as you can. Now, I know I said I wouldn't be mentioning drinking water but, I may have lied. I will remind you to drink your water cause it not only helps your skin look moisturized, but it's good for the rest of your organs.

  3. Products that clog your pores- Sometimes we use stuff with a shitty list of products that damage our skin more than they help it. Before buying a product try to consult a skin expert, and also read reviews about a product. You always got to look for the best to put in your body.

  4. Stress- Yes, when we're stressed our body releases a hormone called cortisone that clogs your pores with nasty substances and that causes a break out. Cortisone also opens your appetite even if you're not hungry, causing us to binge. So there, two major reasons to try and be less stressed. I know life is hectic and it's not easy to find a moment for yourself, but if you're stressed out try and take 3 minutes to meditate or just breathe. Do it in a bathroom break if you have to. Your mind and body will be eternally grateful to you.

With these already established, here's a list of wonderful products that have helped me, get rid of marks, dullness, redness and overall, to achieve the face I've always wanted.

Morning Routine

1. Washing of the face. I use a silicone sponge to help me really wash my face.

2. Chemical exfoliant! It will help you to remove dead skin cells, brightens and smooths. I use the chemical Pixi exfoliant .

The Ordinary, Pixi, Alpha -H, Cosrx, Glossier and Biologique Recherche have incredible chemical exfoliants.

3. Serum. I personally use a vitamin C toner in the morning. Vitamin C stimulates collagen production, protects skin from sun damage, speeds up healing (like acne scars), reduces skin discoloration, keeps skin looking young, hydrating, brightens.

I personally use Oliolo, and it really worked with my skin type.

Mad Hippie, Karuna, Clinique, have good and affordable vitamin C serums.

4, Toner. This little piece of heaven will reduce your pores, restore your skin's pH balance, refresh and moisturize your skin. A major plus is that it feels magical in your face. I use the Mario Badescu facial spray and it's wonderful.

5. Oils! I love to use lavender oil, it helps to slow age, reduces acne, healing of wounds, and it helps you reduce the amount of stress in your body, which we already established that it can cause a breakout.

5. Moisturizer. We don't want to look like a pastry, so, please, always moisturize.

6. SUNSCREEN !!!!! No matter what you do, NEVER go a day without using sunscreen. Not only does the sun burns your skin, but so does artificial light. Even if it's cloudy, if you're in your house, doesn't matter.

It shields your skin from UV rays, prevents premature aging, prevents skin cancer, prevents tanning and sunburns.

Night Routine (s)

For when I'm having a break out, the Mario Badescu drying lotion works magic. It helps you to get rid of the acne so fast. If you're having a break out I recommend just putting this on and going to bed.

Another product that massively helps to kill those zits, is tea tree oil. Fantastic!

When your skin is hurt, Cicaplast is actual fairy dust that will help your skin heal faster. As if you had mystical healing powers. Like that!

When your skin finally healed and your acne is finally gone, there are always acne spots left. And those take forever to finally leave your skin. You'll need vitamin A.

Retinol is my best friend. It helps you with collagen production, combats fine lines, tightens the pores and it clears these annoying spots.

Medik8, Beauty Pie Super Retinol, The Ordinary, Reface, Skin Ceuticals, La Roche-Posay have products with good reviews as well.

When your skin doesn't have spots or acne, I recommend you use a natural oil (I use lavender oil, not pure), toner and moisturizer.

Enjoy that glowy, dewy face!!!
